Sustainable Design 2016

Mimosa is the design of a sustainable restaurant operating by both active and passive sustainable strategies. The main focus however was the passive strategies that entailed the concept and formation of the structure and it's interior spaces.

The Mimosa is named after the yellow, fluffy, Italian flower that celebrates the Festa della Donna (Day of the Women).

Factors such as wind patterns and yearly sun path were the main driving force for this design. The important interior spaces of the first level were located on the north side because it is the cooler side that receives the most daylight. The second level has open arches for optimal views and ventilation. However,  the main seating area on level two is sheltered by glass encasement for harsh weathers and also for a greenhouse effect of heat absorption.

Materials were considered based soley on their sustainabile attributes.
